Romans 7:9
“I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.”
What does Romans 7:9 mean?
Paul is describing a spiritual awakening, using his own experience as an example. He's saying that before he understood God's law deeply, he felt alive and innocent, unaware of how far short he fell. But once the commandment truly confronted him, he realized sin had been operating in him all along, and that awareness brought spiritual death, a crushing sense of separation from God and inability to save himself. This passage speaks to anyone who has suddenly seen themselves clearly, maybe through conviction or a hard season. It's not meant to condemn you but to show why we all need grace.
