Romans 6:2
“May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?”
What does Romans 6:2 mean?
Paul is challenging an assumption that might sound logical but misses something crucial about becoming Christian. If we've genuinely died to sin through Christ (not just intellectually, but in our actual relationship with God), then continuing to live in sin becomes almost nonsensical, like a dead person getting up to keep doing what they did before. He's not saying we'll never struggle with temptation or imperfection, but rather that at the deepest level of who we are now, sin has lost its hold on us. The shock in his question, "how could we live in it any longer?" reflects the strangeness of clinging to something we've actually been freed from.
