What does Romans 15:4 mean?
The Old Testament wasn't just written for people back then, Paul reminds us. Those ancient stories, laws, and prayers were preserved so we could learn from them too. When we read about God's faithfulness to Abraham, or how He sustained the Israelites through the wilderness, or the raw honesty of the Psalms, we're encountering real lessons about endurance and faith that apply to our own struggles. Paul points out that Scripture does something practical for us: it both challenges us to keep going when things are hard and reminds us that we're not alone in our difficulties. Other believers throughout history faced doubt, loss, and fear too, and their stories were recorded for us to find encouragement. When you're in a season of waiting or pain, reading about someone else's journey with God can quietly whisper that hope is possible, that God hasn't abandoned you, and that perseverance matters.
