What does Revelation 22:18 mean?
John closes his letter with a serious warning: don't tamper with what he's written. In the ancient world, this kind of statement was a common way to protect important documents from being changed or edited, much like how we might guard the integrity of a will or contract today. He's not claiming that every word of the Bible is locked in stone (different scribes had already made copies with variations), but rather protecting his specific prophecy from people who might add false predictions or twist his meaning for their own gain. The warning reflects genuine concern about his community's spiritual health. Some people were already trying to exploit Christian faith for money or power, and adding fake visions to John's book could deceive vulnerable believers. Rather than a curse, it's John saying, "Please take this seriously and don't let anyone mess with this message." It's the voice of someone who cares deeply about protecting people from deception, especially those going through persecution and confusion about what God has promised.
