“Behold, I will throw her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great oppression, unless they repent of her works.”
What does Revelation 2:22 mean?
Jesus is addressing the church at Thyatira, where a false teacher (called "Jezebel") has been leading people into spiritual unfaithfulness. His warning here is both serious and merciful: those who persist in following her destructive path will face real consequences, but the door to repentance remains open. The "bed" likely refers to suffering or confinement, a direct reversal of the comfort she offered her followers. What makes this passage compassionate rather than purely punitive is that Jesus frames judgment as a wake-up call. He's saying, in effect, "If you continue down this path, you'll experience the weight of your choices, unless you turn around." The emphasis isn't on permanent condemnation but on the possibility of change. Even in correction, there's an invitation to come back.
