Psalms 143:6
“I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah.”
What does Psalms 143:6 mean?
The psalmist is describing a desperate, physical hunger for God's presence, using the image of dry ground cracking under the sun. When someone is parched, nothing else matters until thirst is quenched, and that's the intensity of longing being expressed here. The outstretched hands are a gesture of openness and surrender, as if saying "I'm empty and I need you." This psalm speaks to those moments when we feel spiritually depleted and can't imagine restoration coming from anywhere but God alone.
