Psalms 143:5
“I remember the days of old. I meditate on all your doings. I contemplate the work of your hands.”
What does Psalms 143:5 mean?
When we're stuck in a hard moment, sometimes the best thing we can do is remember. The psalmist is turning his attention backward, recalling God's faithfulness in earlier seasons and all the ways God has shown up throughout history. By deliberately thinking about what God has done, he's anchoring himself to something solid and real. This isn't just passive reminiscing, though. There's active work happening here: meditating, contemplating, turning things over in his mind. He's asking himself "What does this say about who God actually is?" When life feels uncertain or painful, spending time honestly thinking about God's track record can shift our perspective. It reminds us that the God we knew before is still the God we know now, even when circumstances have changed.
