What does Numbers 33:7 mean?

The Israelites are being tracked through their desert journey, and this verse marks a crucial moment when they reversed direction and headed toward the sea. They were moving from Etham toward Pihahiroth, a location that put them between the Egyptian forces and the water, which set the stage for what many recognize as the crossing of the Red Sea. This wasn't random wandering but a deliberate turn that put them in a position of complete dependence on God, with no escape route except through faith. Sometimes our own journeys include unexpected turns that feel like we're backing into a corner, yet those moments often become the places where we see God move most powerfully. The Israelites couldn't fight their way out or organize their way forward, which is exactly where God wanted them to be.
