Numbers 23:4
“God met Balaam, and he said to him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.””
What does Numbers 23:4 mean?
Balaam has set up everything he thought would work: seven altars, the proper sacrifices, all the religious machinery in place. He's ready to curse Israel as the king Balak hired him to do. But when God shows up to meet him, there's a quiet power in that encounter that no amount of preparation can control. Balaam is about to learn that you can't bargain with God or manipulate his will through ritual and effort, no matter how carefully you arrange things. Sometimes the hardest lesson is that our plans, even when executed perfectly, aren't the same as God's purposes.
