What does Numbers 23:3 mean?
Balaam, a non-Israelite diviner hired to curse the Israelites, is trying to position himself to receive a message from God. He asks Balak to wait by the altar while he seeks out a solitary place where he hopes God will meet him. There's an interesting tension here: Balaam seems genuinely open to encountering the Lord, yet he's been paid to do something God won't allow. What unfolds is that God does speak to Balaam, but consistently blesses Israel instead of cursing them, showing that God's will cannot be bought or manipulated.
