Numbers 11:18
““Say to the people, ‘Sanctify yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, and you will eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.” Therefore Yahweh will give you meat, and you will eat.”
What does Numbers 11:18 mean?
The Israelites have been complaining bitterly about their food in the wilderness, longing for the meat they ate back in Egypt and forgetting how enslaved they were there. God hears their complaints and decides to give them exactly what they're asking for, but first they need to prepare themselves spiritually for what's coming. The instruction to "sanctify yourselves" means to set themselves apart and get ready, probably through ritual purification, because receiving God's provision requires respect and readiness. This passage shows both God's willingness to respond to His people's needs and a subtle warning: when we demand things while dismissing God's care, we may get what we want in ways we don't expect or truly desire.
