What does Nehemiah 2:10 mean?
Nehemiah had just arrived in Jerusalem with permission from the Persian king to rebuild the broken walls. When local opponents like Sanballat and Tobiah heard about this mission, they were deeply upset, not because they cared about the walls themselves, but because they saw Nehemiah's success as a threat to their own power and influence in the region. Their extreme reaction shows how much was at stake spiritually and politically. A restored Jerusalem with functioning walls meant the Jewish people would be stronger, more organized, and less dependent on these rivals. Sometimes when God calls us to do good work, we'll face resistance from unexpected places, not because our plans are wrong, but because they challenge people invested in the status quo. It's a reminder that faithful obedience can make enemies, and that's often a sign we're on the right path.
