Nehemiah 13:21
“Then I testified against them, and said to them, “Why do you stay around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they didn’t come on the Sabbath.”
What does Nehemiah 13:21 mean?
Nehemiah is confronting merchants who were conducting business outside Jerusalem's walls on the Sabbath, God's day of rest. His warning isn't meant to be harsh for its own sake, but to protect a sacred boundary that the people had recently committed to honoring. Sometimes boundaries need enforcement, especially when we're trying to rebuild habits and practices that matter deeply.
