Nehemiah 13:22
“I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember to me, my God, this also, and spare me according to the greatness of your loving kindness.”
What does Nehemiah 13:22 mean?
Nehemiah is wrapping up his account of reforms in Jerusalem, and here he's describing how he restored proper observance of the Sabbath by making sure the Levites (temple workers) were ceremonially clean and guarding the gates to prevent commerce on the holy day. Then he does something very human: he asks God to remember his efforts and to be merciful to him because of God's great kindness, not because of his own perfection.
