Micah 6:3
“My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me!”
What does Micah 6:3 mean?
God is asking His people a deeply personal question, almost like a parent who has loved their child faithfully and suddenly finds that child pulling away. Through the prophet Micah, God is essentially saying, "I have done nothing but care for you. So why do you feel distant from me? What have I actually done that justifies this separation?" The tone here isn't angry so much as it is wounded and confused, inviting honest reflection. This comes in a moment when Israel has drifted into empty religious rituals while neglecting justice and compassion. God isn't saying they don't have legitimate struggles or questions, but rather that their sense of being abandoned doesn't match the reality of His faithfulness. The invitation to "answer me" is genuine, not rhetorical, because sometimes we need to name what we're actually feeling before we can move toward healing.
