Matthew 7:19
“Every tree that doesn’t grow good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire.”
What does Matthew 7:19 mean?
Jesus is painting a picture here about natural consequences and accountability. Just as a fruit tree that fails to produce is eventually removed because it's taking up space and resources, people who consistently refuse to bear good fruit in their lives, through their choices and character, will face judgment. The "fire" represents separation from God and the loss of blessing, not arbitrary punishment but the inevitable outcome of rejecting what's good. This comes at the end of Jesus's teaching about recognizing people by their fruits, so he's saying our lives do matter and what we produce matters. The hard truth is that there's no neutral ground, no endless second chances without change. But for those listening, it's also deeply hopeful, because it means you can start bearing good fruit right now, and your life can change direction. The warning exists precisely because change is possible.
