Matthew 7:18
“A good tree can’t produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit.”
What does Matthew 7:18 mean?
Jesus is describing something we can observe in the natural world and understand in our own lives: what comes out of us flows from what we are inside. A healthy apple tree doesn't suddenly produce poisonous fruit, and a diseased one can't suddenly bear good apples, no matter how much we might wish it. The point isn't that you need to be perfect or that one mistake ruins everything. Rather, it's about recognizing that lasting change happens from the inside out. If we want our actions and words to reflect goodness, the real work is tending to our inner life, our motivations, and our hearts. For people struggling with habits or patterns that don't reflect who they want to be, this verse offers hope: transformation is possible, but it starts deeper than just white-knuckling our way to better behavior.
