What does Matthew 7:13 mean?
Jesus is contrasting two paths through life, and he's being direct about the consequences of each. The narrow gate represents commitment to following him and his values, even when it costs something or goes against what everyone else is doing. The wide gate represents the easier road where we follow our impulses, chase what culture tells us to want, or ignore God's guidance altogether. The point isn't that difficulty itself equals righteousness, but that genuine transformation requires real choice and effort. It's easier to drift with the crowd, which is why "many" take that path, but Jesus warns it leads somewhere destructive. The narrow way isn't narrow because God is restrictive, it's narrow because few people choose to walk it. For anyone wrestling with pressure to compromise or wondering if faith is worth the cost, Jesus is saying: yes, it is.
