““Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.”
What does Matthew 5:11 mean?
When people attack your character, exclude you, or spread lies about you because of your faith in Jesus, that's actually a sign of blessing, not failure. Jesus isn't saying these things feel good or that you won't hurt, but rather that God sees your faithfulness and stands with you in it. This promise was especially vital for his early followers, who faced real danger for following him, and it still speaks to anyone who's suffered for doing what's right. The key word here is "falsely," which matters: you're blessed when the accusations are wrong, not when legitimate consequences follow from actual mistakes.
