What does Matthew 24:37 mean?
Jesus is drawing a parallel between the time before the flood in Noah's era and what the world will be like when he returns. In Noah's day, people were absorbed in everyday life, eating, drinking, marrying, and building, completely unaware that judgment was coming. The point isn't that those activities are sinful, but that people had become spiritually blind and indifferent, ignoring warnings even as Noah prepared the ark. When Jesus says his return will be similar, he's warning that many will be caught off guard because they weren't watching or spiritually prepared. It's less about predicting specific events and more about describing a condition of the human heart: the tendency to become distracted by the ordinary and neglect what matters most.
