What does Matthew 24:28 mean?

Jesus uses this stark image to talk about inevitable judgment. Just as vultures naturally gather where death is, so the final gathering of judgment will happen wherever spiritual death has taken hold. He's saying you don't need to wonder or search for where God's reckoning will occur, because it follows naturally from the presence of corruption and decay. This isn't meant to be gruesome for its own sake, but rather reassuring in a strange way. You don't have to fear missing God's work in the world, because His justice is as certain and undeniable as nature itself. Whatever is spiritually dead will be addressed, and you can trust that outcome even when you can't see all the details of how or when it unfolds.
