Matthew 24:27
βFor as the lightning flashes from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.β
What does Matthew 24:27 mean?
Jesus is describing his return using the image of lightning that suddenly illuminates the entire sky from horizon to horizon. There's no mistaking it, no missing it, no confusion about whether it happened. Just as lightning is unmistakable and visible to everyone at once, Jesus is saying his return will be undeniable and universally witnessed, not a secret event whispered about in hidden places. This is meant to comfort believers and also to warn against false messiahs who claim to have arrived in obscure locations. When Jesus returns, the whole world will know it simultaneously.
