Matthew 24:26
“If therefore they tell you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ don’t go out; ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ don’t believe it.”
What does Matthew 24:26 mean?
Jesus is warning his followers not to chase after false messiahs or misleading spiritual claims. In his time, various people claimed to be the promised deliverer, and some would hide in remote places or secret locations, gathering followers who believed they'd found the real thing. Jesus is saying: don't fall for it, no matter how convincing the claim or how exclusive the location sounds. The deeper message is about spiritual discernment during uncertain times. When everything feels confusing and you're longing for rescue or answers, it's easy to grasp at whatever seems to offer hope, especially if it comes with an air of mystery or exclusivity. Jesus is essentially telling us to stay grounded in what we actually know about him rather than chasing rumors or sensational claims. That kind of steady trust protects us from being misled when we're most vulnerable.
