Matthew 23:25

What does Matthew 23:25 mean?
Jesus is pointing out a painful contradiction: these religious leaders focus on appearing righteous and following outward rules perfectly, but their hearts are driven by greed and cruelty. It's like washing the outside of a dish until it gleams while leaving the inside filthy.
