Matthew 23:12
βWhoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.β
What does Matthew 23:12 mean?
Jesus is pointing to a pattern he saw again and again: people who are consumed with building themselves up, earning praise, and climbing above others eventually get brought low, while those who live with genuine humility and service end up genuinely honored. It's not about false modesty or self-deprecation, but about releasing the exhausting grip of always needing to prove your worth. When we stop performing for status and instead focus on how we can help and serve others, we actually find the kind of respect and belonging that can't be manufactured anyway.
