What does Matthew 22:41 mean?
Jesus turns the tables on his critics here, shifting from answering their challenges to posing one of his own. The Pharisees, who've been testing him with trick questions throughout Matthew 22, suddenly find themselves on the other side of the interrogation. What follows (in the next verses) is Jesus's question about who the Messiah actually is, which exposes a gap between what the religious leaders believed and what Scripture actually showed. It's a moment where Jesus moves from defense to gentle confrontation, inviting them to think more carefully about their own faith.
