What does Matthew 22:2 mean?

Jesus opens this parable by comparing God's kingdom to a wedding celebration, which in his culture was one of the most joyful and inclusive events imaginable. A king throwing a marriage feast for his son wasn't just a meal, it was an extravagant expression of generosity where hosts invited everyone they could think of to share in the abundance and happiness. By starting here, Jesus is telling us that God's kingdom is fundamentally about invitation, abundance, and celebration, not scarcity or exclusion. The parable that follows will explore what happens when people respond (or don't respond) to that generous invitation.
