What does Matthew 22:1 mean?

Jesus is about to tell another parable, and this simple opening reminds us that he's returning to a teaching method his audience knew well. Parables were stories that wrapped spiritual truth in everyday images, making them memorable and thought-provoking rather than just stating facts directly. By this point in Matthew's gospel, Jesus has already told many parables, so his listeners would have been familiar with his style of drawing lessons from things like seeds, sheep, and household tasks. This verse is essentially a pause before the story itself, a moment where Jesus gathers attention and invites people to listen carefully to what comes next.
