What does Matthew 21:7 mean?
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, his followers wanted to honor him as a king, so they brought a donkey and its young colt. They spread their cloaks over both animals as a makeshift saddle, and Jesus rode into the city this way. This humble choice of transportation, riding on a working animal rather than a war horse, was itself a message: Jesus came as a peacemaker, not a conquerer. By fulfilling an ancient prophecy about a king arriving this way, Matthew shows his Jewish readers that Jesus was the promised Messiah, though not the military liberator many had expected.
