What does Matthew 16:8 mean?
Jesus had just warned his disciples to beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees, which was his way of talking about false teachings. His followers, though, got stuck on the literal meaning and started worrying they'd forgotten to pack bread for their journey. When Jesus noticed them anxiously debating this practical problem, he gently pointed out that they were missing the spiritual point entirely. The phrase "little faith" wasn't harsh criticism but rather a tender nudge. Jesus was saying that if they trusted him, they didn't need to spiral into worry about ordinary needs. He'd already shown them he could multiply bread to feed thousands, yet here they were, fretting like he couldn't be relied on. Sometimes when we're anxious about practical things, it's worth asking whether we've lost sight of what actually matters, or whether we've forgotten that we're not walking through life alone.
