What does Matthew 16:7 mean?
The disciples have just heard Jesus warn them to "beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees," which he meant as a spiritual warning about false teachings. But the disciples, tired and probably hungry, completely miss the point and start worrying that Jesus is upset because they forgot to pack enough bread for the boat trip. It's a very human moment, really. They're so caught up in practical, immediate concerns that they can't hear what Jesus is actually trying to teach them. Jesus will gently call out this misunderstanding in the next verses, using it as a chance to remind them that his provision and care matter far more than whether they have enough snacks. Sometimes when we're anxious or distracted, we miss what's really being said to us, too.
