What does Matthew 16:11 mean?
Jesus is gently calling out his disciples for missing his point. They'd just been worried about having enough bread to eat, so when he warned them to "beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees," they thought he was criticizing them for forgetting provisions. But yeast here is a metaphor for influence and teaching, not actual food. Jesus is telling them to watch out for the false teachings and spiritual corruption spreading from the religious leaders, which can quietly affect everyone around them just as yeast quietly works through dough. It's a reminder that sometimes we get so caught up in immediate, practical concerns that we miss what really matters, especially when it comes to our faith and the influences we let shape our thinking.
