What does Matthew 15:5 mean?
Jesus is calling out a loophole that religious leaders used to dodge their responsibility to care for aging parents. They'd declare their resources "devoted to God" (called *Corban* in Mark's version), which meant they couldn't legally use that money to help Mom and Dad, even though that was supposedly their religious duty. It's a perfect example of how people can hide behind technical obedience to rules while actually breaking the spirit of what God asks. The deeper point is that real faith shows up in how we treat the people closest to us, especially those who've given us life and care. We can't claim devotion to God while neglecting the people right in front of us who need us most.
