Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!”

What does Matthew 15:22 mean?

A desperate mother crosses cultural and religious boundaries to reach Jesus, calling out with everything she has because her daughter is suffering terribly. Her cry for mercy shows she's willing to abandon pride and social convention in pursuit of help for someone she loves. The title "son of David" reveals she recognizes Jesus as the promised Messiah, even though she's a Canaanite (an outsider to Israel), which makes her faith remarkable given the division between their peoples. This moment captures what it looks like when hope and love drive us to seek help from the only place we believe we can find it.
