What does Matthew 15:23 mean?
Jesus had just encountered a Canaanite woman whose daughter was suffering, and when she called out to him for help, he said nothing. His silence was not indifference but a test of faith, and it's easy to understand why his disciples found the situation uncomfortable. They saw her persistence as a public nuisance and wanted Jesus to simply grant her request so she would stop following them and calling out. What's striking here is that Jesus didn't send her away, even though his disciples urged him to. Instead, this moment became an opportunity for her to demonstrate extraordinary trust despite being initially overlooked. The disciples' request reveals something very human: sometimes we want problems solved quickly for our own comfort, rather than allowing space for deeper faith to grow. For those of us in hard seasons, this passage reminds us that being unseen or unheard momentarily doesn't mean we're being rejected. Sometimes the waiting itself becomes the place where our faith is strengthened.
