What does Matthew 13:13 mean?
Jesus is describing why he teaches in stories and parables rather than spelling everything out directly. He's pointing to a hard truth: people often resist what God is trying to show them, even when it's right in front of them. Their hearts aren't open, so even clear teaching slides past them without taking root. This doesn't mean Jesus is trying to confuse people or keep secrets. Rather, parables invite genuine seekers to think deeper, while they can seem like just stories to those who aren't ready to listen. It's a bit like how the same conversation might wake one person up and put another to sleep, depending on what they're prepared to hear. The responsibility ultimately rests with us, whether we're willing to truly pay attention to what God wants to teach us.
