Matthew 13:12

For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have abundance, but whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he has.

What does Matthew 13:12 mean?

Jesus is describing how spiritual understanding works in the kingdom of God. When you're open to God's truth and actively live out what you know, you gain deeper insight and fuller spiritual life. But if you close yourself off to God's voice, even the little understanding or faith you might have can fade away. This isn't about God punishing people unfairly. It's more like a natural pattern: a farmer who tends his crops sees them flourish, while neglected fields become barren. The same applies to our hearts. When we engage with God's word, pursue truth, and follow where it leads us, we experience more of God's presence and wisdom. When we ignore or resist that calling, we gradually lose even what we had. The invitation throughout Scripture is to stay open, keep seeking, and watch what God does with a willing heart.
