“He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.”
What does Matthew 10:40 mean?
Jesus is telling his disciples that when people welcome them, they're actually welcoming him, and through him, they're welcoming God the Father. It's a way of saying that his followers carry his presence and authority with them as they go out into the world. This matters especially for the disciples he's sending out to preach, often to places where they'll be strangers needing food and shelter.
