Matthew 10:39
“He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.”
What does Matthew 10:39 mean?
At first this sounds backwards, like losing is winning. But Jesus is pointing to something real about how we live: when we clutch tightly to safety, comfort, and control, we often end up anxious and spiritually empty. When we're willing to let go of those things for something greater (serving Him, loving others, living with integrity), we actually discover a deeper kind of life that nothing can take away. This doesn't mean recklessness or self-harm. It means that the people who seem most alive are often those who've stopped being ruled by fear of losing everything. They've given themselves to something worth giving themselves to, and in that surrender they've found genuine freedom and purpose.
