Matthew 10:20
“For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.”
What does Matthew 10:20 mean?
When Jesus sent out his disciples to face opposition and hostility, he wanted them to know they wouldn't be alone or left to figure out what to say. He was telling them that in moments when they needed to stand up for their faith, God's Spirit would be present, guiding their words and giving them courage. This doesn't mean their personality or voice disappears, but rather that they'd be supported and directed by something bigger than their own anxious thoughts. For anyone facing a difficult conversation about what they believe, or going through a season where you need strength you don't feel you have, this verse reminds us that we're not abandoned to our own resources.
