What does Mark 9:30 mean?

Jesus and his disciples are traveling quietly through Galilee, and Jesus deliberately keeps their journey private. He's intentionally avoiding public attention at this point, perhaps because he knows his teaching is becoming more dangerous and he needs focused time with his followers to prepare them for what's coming. This moment reflects a pattern in Mark's Gospel where Jesus often tries to keep his identity and mission quiet, even as his popularity grows. By stepping back from crowds and attention, he creates space for his disciples to truly understand who he is and what his mission means, away from the noise and expectations of public opinion. It's a reminder that deep growth often happens in the quiet moments, away from the spotlight.
