Mark 8:19

When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Twelve.”

What does Mark 8:19 mean?

Jesus is reminding his disciples of a miracle they witnessed together, when he fed a massive crowd with just five loaves of bread. After everyone ate their fill, there were twelve baskets of leftovers, which Jesus is asking them to recall. He's using this concrete memory to challenge their worry and lack of faith, since they're now anxious about having enough food. It's a gentle but pointed question: if he could feed thousands with scraps left over, why do they doubt his provision for a small group of hungry people?
