What does Mark 8:18 mean?
Jesus is gently calling out his disciples for missing what's right in front of them. He's just performed miracles—feeding thousands, healing the sick—yet they're still anxious about practical details and slow to grasp who he is or what he's capable of. His questions aren't harsh; they're almost like a teacher tapping a student's shoulder, asking them to actually pay attention to what's happening around them. There's something tender in this moment because Jesus knows they're trying, but also stuck in worry and small thinking. He's inviting them (and us) to open our eyes and ears not just physically, but spiritually, to notice God's faithfulness in the everyday. Sometimes we live through moments of grace without really seeing them, or we forget lessons we've already learned when new challenges come. Jesus is asking us to be more awake to what God is actually doing in our lives.
