Mark 5:19
“He didn’t allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.””
What does Mark 5:19 mean?
Jesus does something surprising here. The man who's just been healed of a severe demon possession wants to follow Jesus around, but Jesus sends him home instead. Rather than keeping this dramatic miracle close by as a traveling companion, Jesus gives him a different calling: to be a witness in his own community, sharing what happened to him. There's something beautiful in this. Jesus recognizes that this man's hometown needs to hear his story more than Jesus needs another follower in his circle. The healed man becomes a missionary to the people who knew him before, telling them about God's mercy in a way only his testimony can convey. He's not required to become perfect or fully trained first, just to share genuinely what he's experienced. For anyone who's experienced God's help during a difficult time, this speaks directly.
