What does Mark 4:6 mean?
This image comes from Jesus's parable about a farmer scattering seeds. Some seeds fall on rocky ground where they sprout quickly but have nowhere to go deep—they look promising at first, but when the heat of the sun comes, they can't survive. The lack of roots means the plant can't draw up water or nutrients when life gets hard. Jesus uses this picture to describe what happens when people hear God's word with initial excitement but haven't let it take root in their hearts deeply enough to sustain them through difficulty. When challenges come (and they always do), shallow faith simply can't hold up. It's a gentle reminder that real spiritual growth isn't about dramatic first moments, but about allowing God's word to work its way deep into who we are.
