Mark 4:5
βOthers fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.β
What does Mark 4:5 mean?
In Jesus' parable of the sower, this describes seeds that land on shallow, rocky soil. They sprout quickly because there's nothing stopping them, but the rocky ground holds very little moisture or nutrients. It's a picture of something that looks promising at first but lacks the foundation needed to last, which Jesus uses to describe people who hear God's word with initial enthusiasm but don't let it take deep root in their lives. When difficulties come or distractions pull them away, there's nothing substantial underneath to sustain their faith.
