What does Mark 2:24 mean?
The Pharisees are challenging Jesus because his disciples are picking grain on the Sabbath, which they viewed as work and therefore forbidden by Jewish law. Their question carries real conviction: they genuinely believed the Sabbath rules were non-negotiable parts of honoring God. What makes this moment important is that Jesus doesn't ignore their concern or dismiss the Law itself, but rather reframes what matters most. He's about to show them that sometimes compassion and human need can take priority over strict rule-keeping, inviting them (and us) to think more deeply about why rules exist in the first place.
