As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had blessed, he broke it, and gave to them, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body.”

What does Mark 14:22 mean?

In this moment at his final meal with the disciples, Jesus transforms an ordinary act of sharing bread into something that would anchor Christian faith for centuries. He's establishing a way for his followers to remember him and encounter his presence, even after he's gone. When he says the bread "is" his body, he's using the language of deep spiritual reality rather than literal transformation, inviting them into participation in his sacrifice and love. This simple meal becomes a bridge between his physical presence with them and his ongoing spiritual presence with all who would gather in his name.
