What does Mark 12:6 mean?
In this parable, Jesus describes a vineyard owner who has already sent many servants to collect what's owed to him, only to have them rejected and mistreated. When all else fails, he makes one final decision: to send his own beloved son, hoping that surely the tenants will show respect when they see the heir. It's a poignant moment where the owner's hope seems almost naive in its innocence. Jesus is drawing a parallel to how God sends prophets throughout history to call people back, and then sends His own Son, expecting this ultimate act of love will finally reach people's hearts. The tragedy embedded in this story, which unfolds in the verses that follow, reflects a hard truth: sometimes love and sacrifice are rejected anyway, and we're left to reckon with human resistance to God's grace.
