What does Mark 12:7 mean?
In this moment from Jesus's parable about vineyard workers, the tenant farmers recognize that the owner's son has arrived, and their response reveals the darkness of unchecked greed. Rather than show respect or gratitude, they see an opportunity: if they eliminate the heir, they believe they can seize the vineyard and its profits for themselves. It's a stark picture of how desire for power and possessions can corrupt our thinking, making us rationalize terrible choices as reasonable solutions. Jesus uses this story to show religious leaders their own blindness, how they're rejecting him despite recognizing who he is, all because they want to protect what they think belongs to them.
